Benjamin Mendy Launches 'Multi-Million-Pound' Lawsuit Against Manchester City For Unpaid Wages

Image
The 29-year-old alleges 'unauthorised deductions from wages' related to his 2021 charges of rape and sexual assault. Former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy initiates a 'multi-million-pound' claim against the club, citing 'unauthorised deductions from wages' amid charges of rape and sexual assault in 2021. Mendy was acquitted of several charges in January and faced a retrial resulting in further acquittals in July. In August, the High Court learned of Mendy selling his house to avert bankruptcy, as HM Revenue and Customs pursues a bankruptcy order over a tax debt nearing £800,000. Nick De Marco KC, representing Mendy, confirmed the 'multi-million-pound' claim, asserting Manchester City's failure to pay wages from September 2021 to the end of his contract in June 2023.  The claim is set to be addressed in an Employment Tribunal. City has refrained from commenting on the situation, expressing bewilderment at the claim considering Mendy's u...

Everton's challenge against the 10-point penalty has reached Parliament, with a Liverpool MP criticizing the punishment as 'grossly unjust.' The unprecedented penalty, imposed by an independent commission following a case brought by the Premier League, has plunged Everton into the relegation zone, sparking outrage within the club and its fan base. Ian Byrne, the MP for West Derby, has lent his political support to Everton by presenting an early day motion in the House of Commons.  This move comes after intervention by Steve Rotheram, mayor for the Liverpool City Region, who expressed concern to Premier League chief executive Richard Masters about Everton's treatment. In the motion filed by Mr. Byrne on Monday evening, he criticized the commission's 'cavalier' approach to the punitive penalty and endorsed calls for an independent football regulator. The full motion read: 'This House condemns the grossly unjust points deduction imposed on Everton Footbal...

Bird Renaming Initiative Announced by US Ornithological Society

Image
In a significant move towards inclusivity and cultural sensitivity, the American Ornithological Society has announced its decision to rename several bird species in the US and Canada.  These changes will replace names associated with individuals, especially those with racist histories, with names inspired by the birds' habitats and characteristics. The decision is aimed at fostering a more inclusive environment for bird-watching enthusiasts and addressing a long-standing issue in the field.  Approximately 70 to 80 bird species are set to undergo this transformation. The society's CEO, Judith Scarl, emphasized the need to move away from exclusionary naming conventions developed in the 1800s, which were marred by racism and misogyny.  The focus is now redirected towards celebrating the avian creatures themselves. Birds such as Wilson's warbler and Wilson's snipe, named after 19th Century naturalist Alexander Wilson, are among those slated for renaming.  This fol...
