Image
A retired Army Captain and security expert, Amb. Abdullahi Adamu Bakoji, has described the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun, the former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) as a strategic move aimed at calming public tension and restoring confidence in the Nigeria’s security system. Speaking in an exclusive interview with theglobalnewsupdate on Wednesday, Bakoji said the resignation did not happen in isolation but followed sustained public pressure, controversies surrounding the handling of protests, and concerns about the politicization of the police force. According to him, “The resignation appears to be the result of combined factors, including sustained public pressure, controversies surrounding the handling of protests, and broader concerns about the politicization of the police force.” He added that the decision may also be a deliberate effort to rebuild public trust in the country’s security architecture. On whether the resignation was expected, the security expert noted that ...

Ngwoma Obube Ezeship: What The Court Said

Image
How Quack Reporting Tried To Smear Prince (Dr) Alex Mbata A recent blog post by one obscure blogger, Francis Ndimkoha making rounds on social media attempted to link Prince (Dr) Alex Mbata, the renowned philanthropist and industrialist, to the ongoing Ngwoma Obube Ezeship tussle. The write-up, published by an obscure online platform, is a lazy piece of quack journalism, riddled with falsehood and desperate attempts to draw attention through name-dropping.  For the record, Prince (Dr) Mbata has absolutely nothing to do with the traditional leadership matter in question. The Imo State High Court, Owerri North Judicial Division, presided over by Hon. Justice L.C. Alinnor, on October 2, 2025, issued an order restraining both parties in the Ezeship dispute — Chinedu Ekeocha and Crown Prince Kemakolam Onukogu — from parading themselves as the Eze of Ngwoma Obube pending the determination of the substantive suit. The ruling was clear, balanced, and lawful. At no point did the court mentio...

Misinformation From The Information Commissioner: Imo Government In a Nutshell

Image
By Lawrence Opara   As an Imo indigene, I am used to the Uzodimma government insulting my intelligence. When they come out and cut ribbons or do groundbreakings, I know the subsequent project will be substandard at best and abandoned at worst. I am used to Governor Hope lying with a straight face about the security challenges in the state, with no scruples whatsoever. But even for them, the latest outburst I saw on Daily Post from the Commissioner for Information, Declan Emelumba, is a new low. In his attempt to discredit a private citizen's statement about Imo State’s appalling maternal mortality rate, the Commissioner didn’t just miss the point, he insulted our intelligence with a wild rant devoid of any introspection or logical thinking.  Emelumba was attacking a claim by Dr. Chima Amadi about Imo State having one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world due to lack of adequate healthcare for Ndị Imo. However, in his puerile and honestly infuriating rebut...

Imo 2027: The Contenders And The Battle for Douglas House

Image
BY RALPH EJIMKONYE As the political temperature gradually rises in Imo State, attention is already shifting towards the high-stakes battle for the 2027 governorship election. Though Governor Hope Uzodinma’s tenure is expected to lapse by January 15, 2028, behind-the-scenes maneuverings and subtle campaigns have begun in earnest, setting the stage for one of the most contested races in the state’s democratic history. In typical Nigerian fashion, while a few major contenders have publicly shown signs of interest in the coveted seat,.others are still mum, but maintaining a studious interest on unfolding developments. Evidently, defections and realignments, subterranean meetings, increased media visibility, and subtle endorsements, paint a clear picture of ambitious gladiators plotting their way to Douglas House. *The Power of Incumbency: How Far Will Uzodinma’s Succession Plan Go?* One of the most important questions going into the 2027 race is: Will Governor Hope Uzodinma anoint a ...

Obidients, Ihedioha Renew Rivalry Over Alleged Atiku Agenda

Image
The 2027 political permutations have taken a fresh twist as members of the Obidient Movement,  staunch supporters of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi has openly criticized former Imo State Governor, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, over his alleged preference for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the presidential flag bearer of the emerging opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The backlash comes in the wake of Ihedioha’s recent defection to the ADC, a move seen by many as strategic positioning ahead of the anticipated merger of opposition forces. Ihedioha, at a meeting in Owerri, also directed his political structure, the Rebuild Imo Movement, to move en masse into the ADC, However, what has triggered outrage from Obi’s supporters is the growing belief that Ihedioha and his loyalists are working behind the scenes to ensure Atiku Abubakar clinches the presidential ticket of the new opposition alliance. According to emerging reports...

Lagos housing Crisis Deepens As Rent Consumes Up To 60% Of Residents’ Income – Report

Image
More than 70 percent of Lagos residents remain tenants, with a significant portion of their income, between 40 to 60 percent, going towards rent, according to the latest State of Lagos Housing Market Report, which sheds light on the deepening housing crisis in Africa’s largest city. The report reveals that rental pressure is most severe in affluent neighbourhoods such as Lekki, Ikoyi, and Victoria Island, where property values and luxury apartment costs continue to rise despite broader economic headwinds. Commissioned by the Roland Igbinoba Real Foundation for Housing and Urban Development, RIRFHUD, the third edition of the biennial report paints a complex picture of Lagos’ real estate market. While upscale developments and short-let accommodations are thriving, primarily driven by diaspora funding and developers targeting high-net-worth people, the low-income housing sector remains severely underfunded and neglected. Unveiled during an event in Victoria Island, the report is the...

Imo, Uzodinma And A Tale Of Two Amadi

Image
Chidi Elemuo In the unfolding political drama in Imo State, Governor Hope Uzodinma’s administration has chosen a curious and deeply troubling strategy: attacking citizens who dare to speak truth to power. At the center of this unfolding controversy are two distinguished sons of Ngor Okpala LGA., Dr. Sam Amadi and Dr. Chima Amadi. These two individuals, widely respected in their fields and beyond, have come under sustained attacks for simply choosing to raise their voices against the deepening rot in governance and the deteriorating conditions in Imo State. Dr. Sam Amadi, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC),. governorship aspirant and a noted intellectual, has been vocal in his critique of the Uzodinma administration’s glaring failures, especially in the areas of insecurity, infrastructure decay, and the abandonment of public services. Not one to mince words, Dr. Amadi has consistently called for accountability, good governance, and a return ...

Image
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has announced plans for a broad political alliance that would bring together the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party (LP) to challenge what he described as the “incompetent and inefficient” administration of President Bola Tinubu. Atiku made the disclosure while speaking in Abuja to a delegation of stakeholders from Kogi East Senatorial Zone, led by former Kogi State Deputy Governor Simon Achuba. The discussion also centered on tackling insecurity in the region and promoting unity across the northern part of the country. Expressing grave concern over Nigeria’s deepening security challenges, Atiku criticized the Tinubu government for lacking the political resolve to address the crisis. He recalled his time as Vice President during the emergence of Boko Haram, noting that strong and decisive leadership under his administration had, at the time, helped suppress the insurgency. “How can leaders...

Imo Charter Of Equity: Okigwe Or Owerri? By Obinna Ndukwe

Image
I have long thought  about this question and I know that many of us in Imo state are also asking the same thing.  What exactly is equity?  Is equity about who shouts the loudest?  Is it   about who has suffered the most? Or is it about correcting an injustice and restoring balance?  If we are to be honest to ourselves, Okigwe zone is the biggest victim of political injustice in Imo state.  The reality of the Imo Charter of Equity is that it was created to ensure that power rotates fairly among the three zones – Orlu, Okigwe and Owerri – so that no single zone dominates leadership. It was meant to give every zone a full and fair opportunity to govern. Orlu zone began the cycle in 1999 with Achike Udenwa and he served for eight full years between that date and 2007.  In 2007, the rotation moved to Okigwe with Ikedi Ohakim but this is where the injustice began.  Okigwe was not allowed to complete its statutorily allowed eight years a...
