Chris Anyanwu's Confessed Coup Detat

Image
By Uzochukwu Nzekwe Chris Anyanwu is a journalist turned politician. She delved into politics, leveraging her contacts with the military. She was subsequently "elected" to the Senate in 2007 on the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and in 2011 on the playform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as a representative of Owerri Zone. She lost the ticket of the PDP in 2011 to return to the Senate, forcing her to decamp and pick up the senatorial ticket in APGA.  Rather than pick up her pieces and move on like genuine and altruistic politicians do, Anyanwu preferred to engage in blame games, and the person she liked to blame was Dr. Ikedi Ohakim, who was the governor of Imo State at the time. At the time that Chris Anyanwu lost her senatorial ticket in the PDP, Ohakim was battling entrenched internal and external forces who were unduly interested in the local politics of Imo State and, therefore, determined to unseat Ohakim.  To them, Ohakim was too au...

We Don’t Have Power To Determine Tenure Of IGP – Police Service Commission

Image
The Police Service Commission, PSC, has said it has no constitutional powers to determine the appointment or removal of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP. Theglobalnewsupdates recalls that the Police Service Commission had last week directed all serving police officers who have served for 35 years, or attained the age of 60 years, to proceed on immediate retirement in line with existing laws. But Ikechukwu Ani, Head, Press and Public Relations of the PSC, in a statement on Monday, said, “By virtue of Paragraph 30, part 1 of the third schedule to the Constitution, and clause 6 (1) of the Police Service Commission (Establisment) Act, 2001, the Commission is charged with the responsibilities of appointment, promotion, dismissal and exercising disciplinary control over persons holding offices in the Nigeria Police Force (except the Inspector General of Police). “The ...

PDP National Secretary Post: Governors Back Ude Okoye As Anyanwu Blows Hot

Image
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has thrown its weight behind Ude Okoye as the party’s National Secretary, effectively sidelining Senator Samuel Anyanwu. The decision was reached during a meeting held in Asaba, Delta State, with key party leaders and stakeholders in attendance. The endorsement is seen as a major move to realign the party’s leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections. The decision, however, has sparked controversy within the PDP, as Anyanwu, the incumbent National Secretary, has rejected the forum’s stance. Speaking late on Friday, Anyanwu dismissed the communique issued by the Governors’ Forum, insisting that it has no authority to dictate the party’s internal affairs. “First and foremost, the PDP Governors’ Forum is not an organ of our party. So, I’m unperturbed by the communique they issued after their meeting,” he stated. Anyanwu also criticized Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, suggesting that his influence played a role in the Governo...
