Nkwerre Aborigines Union America Holds 2025 Convention, Preaches Love, Unity Of Purpose

 


"We must continue making our father land proud" -- National President

Nkwerre Aborigines Union America (NAU-America) has held its 2025 Convention in glitz and glamour.

The event which lasted for 3 days recorded a tremendous impact on members and guests who fully participated in it. The mind-blowing occasion took place at Newark, New Jersey, USA.

In his address, the National President of the Union, Nze Sir Ike Okanu, hailed all sector members for their unflinching support to his leadership since his emergence as the National President, urging them not to relent as faith, confidence, unity and courage are the essentials of success as they implement their plans for the betterment of Nkwerre.

Okanu added that the Union would continue with its previous program of Education and Empowerment of the Youth, as well as render financial assistance to the less- privileged students in Nkwerre Secondary Schools. 

He disclosed that all the proceeds from the National Convention had been earmarked for school supplies, scholarships and payments for West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees for indigent students in the area.

"Education helps to reduce poverty, improves health outcome and also promotes democracy", he added.

Okanu, the Dike-Oha of Nkwerre, lauded the host who doubles as the Chapter President, Mr. Kingsley Abuchi and Committee Members for their sacrifice on the success of the Convention, advising NAU members to ignore rumors and unfounded fears to enable the Union progress more. 

In his words, the President emeritus of the Union, Dr Emeka Chinaka, who gave  steward of his leadership within the period, hinted that the Union has been paying WAEC fees, helping local Vigilantes and Police in Nkwerre by making sure their vehicles are functional, provision of communication gadgets, boots, raincoats, touch light, among other things, to support their operations for improved security in the area. 

"We have also been supportive to the local Vigilantes and the Police in Nkwerre", the President emeritus said.

Chinaka recalled that under his watch, the Union distributed a lot of educational materials (school supplies) to all schools in Nkwerre such as school bags, pens, makers, books, rulers and other things. 

He stressed that the Union had awarded scholarships to outstanding students of Nkwerre origin, noting that some NAU-America members and other individuals, prominent sons and daughters of Nkwerre had before now paid school fees for students in Okwuamara Township School, Nkwerre, among others.

"The have also built school desk for students and pupils in and around schools in Nkwerre LGA", he added.

He encouraged the new leadership to uphold the objectives of Nkwerre Aborigines Union which he said is anchored on excellence, transparency and accountability so as to give all a sense of belonging, pledging his continuous support to the leadership under Sir Ike Okanu, enjoining members to cooperate with the entire house to enable the new leadership succeed.

Adding his voice, one of the Patrons of NAU-America Nze Joe Okwu, reminded Nkwerre people that Nkwerre community belongs to Umu Nkwerre as Nkwerre does not belong to any individual, telling all to lead honest and peaceful lives.

The Union resolved that the next Convention will be at Minnesota by May 2026, remarking that the Annual WAEC  registration fees will be paid for St. Augustine Grammer School, Nkwerre, St. Catherine Girls Secondary School, Nkwerre and Nkwerre High School.

The Union also resolved that it would keep on providing financial support to the Vigilantes at the area, under the care of Nkenkenyi, to urgument what the government pays them.

Members poured out encomiums on the outgoing administration as they vowed loyalty to the new administration.

However, NAU-America commended the Chief Launcher and his wife,

Chief Odoemena and Jane Uzoma (Odo-Nkwerre) for their handsome donation to the Union.

Children participated richly also as they entertained the audience with various cultural music and Igbo songs.

Highlights of the event was Award of Excellence presented to the former National President of the Union, Dr. Emeka Chinaka, followed by donations.
