After Receiving A Red Card, The FA Charges Virgil Van Dijk, The Captain Of Liverpool
Following his dismissal from the match against Newcastle on August 27, Virgil van Dijk, the captain and center back for Liverpool, is being accused of improper conduct by the Football Association (FA).
As a result of two goals from substitute Darwin Nunez, Liverpool won the Premier League match at St. James' Park 2-1. Even though Van Dijk was given a straight red card in the first half, the victory was still achieved.
The VAR (Video Assistant Referee) upheld referee John Brooks' decision to remove Van Dijk for a foul on Alexander Isak at the edge of the box.
The defender took his time leaving the field of play after receiving a red card, and he later got into an altercation with fourth official Craig Pawson, which caused the restart to be delayed.
The FA said that Van Dijk had "acted improperly and/or used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official after being sent off in the 29th minute" in a statement made public on Tuesday.
The international player from the Netherlands has till Friday to answer the accusation.
Van Dijk will be absent from Liverpool's forthcoming Premier League game against Aston Villa at home on Sunday because of the ban. He might potentially miss the trip to play Wolves on Saturday, September 16, if his suspension is prolonged.
