Wike Prohibits Congratulatory Notes Following His Appointment As Minister
Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has prohibited all congratulations from friends and well-wishers following his appointment to the position.
He claimed that messages congratulating him on his appointment as Minister appearing on lamp post billboards, large-scale billboards, and other such advertisements are severe distractions that could cause him to lose focus on his primary task in the FCT.
While the FCT Minister greatly appreciates the warm wishes and support of the public, it was noted in a statement titled "Request to Members of the Public to Refrain from Placing Congratulatory Billboards in Honor of the FCT Minister" signed by his Director of Press, Anthony Ogunleye, that "the Minister kindly, but strongly requests that such billboards and advertisements be discontinued forthwith."
The statement reads, "The Honourable Minister acknowledges the great outpouring of kindness from the citizens of the Federal Capital Territory and beyond, and understands the sentiment underlying these congratulatory displays. The Honourable Minister is sincerely touched by the show of solidarity.
"However, in the spirit of public service and dedication to his duties, the Minister wishes to devote all of his time to helping His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, realize his vision and the Renewed Hope agenda for Nigeria.
According to the statement, "as the FCT Minister, his foremost duty lies in contributing to the development and growth of the FCT and the well-being of its residents and the nation as a whole."
Wike stated that he holds the hopes and expectations of the FCT citizens in the highest respect and that he is committed to carrying out his duties with the utmost honesty and dedication.
He stated that in his opinion, the best way to accomplish this is to focus all of one's attention on the current task at hand and work together with other public officials to serve the country as effectively as possible.
