NCC Cautions People To Stop Posting Their Private Information Online.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a warning to telecom customers in Bauchi State to stop disclosing their private information online and in person, especially at points of sale (PoS) and commercial banks.
As part of the Commission's "Shine Your Eyes, No Fall Mugu" campaign, Director of Consumer Affairs NCC, Umar Alkazeem, warned people in Bauchi that if they revealed their personal information, they risked being scammed.
Alkazeem said that some network subscribers' greed is escalating the unlawful operations. Alkazeem was represented by Banji Ojo, Head of Consumers Policy Development and Monitoring of the Consumers Affairs Department.
He claims that many people click on false links that ask them to confirm money that has been supplied to them in order to get quick money or to pursue different hobbies, which leads to their victimization.
He explained, "Once you click on the or provide any information, you're done. They send a link to you that says you have a lottery you never played or you have won a certain amount and you need to call Mr A or B to get the money."
Then Umar Alkazeem urged the residents of Bauchi to tell financial institutions about odd debit warnings from their accounts and to involve the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and security forces.
He also cautioned Nigerians against disclosing five crucial pieces of information about their debit cards, including the 16-digit number, the three-digit number on the reverse, the card name, the expiration date, and the PIN.
Nigeria lost N9.5 billion to fraud between January and August of 2023, according to the Nigeria Electronic Fraud Forum (NeFF), thus citizens of Nigeria should exercise caution.
