News: The Tribunal Rejects The APC's Objection To The Lawsuit Seeking To Oust Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) petitioned the Lagos State Governorship Election Tribunal to reject the All Progressives Congress' (APC) preliminary objection, which was denied.
According to theglobalnewsupdates, Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP), who received 312,329 votes, was defeated by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the APC, who received 762,134 votes. With 62,449 votes, PDP candidate Jide Adediran (Jandor) finished in a distant third place.
In a petition, Adediran and his party, the PDP, claimed that Governor Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, were unqualified to vie for office during the election for two reasons. Adediran also asserted that Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, a member of the Labour Party and INEC's second-highest vote-getter, was ineligible to run for office at the time of the election. The first respondent in this matter is INEC, who is followed as the second to sixth respondents, respectively, by Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat, APC, Rhodes-Vivour, and the LP.
Due to alleged violations of the Electoral Act of 2022 and INEC regulations, the PDP's nominee for governor demanded that the candidates from the All Progressives Congress and Labour Party be declared ineligible. However, the APC asked the Tribunal to dismiss the PDP's case in their preliminary objection, which was ultimately denied by the tribunal.
The PDP's petition and an extra statement on oath submitted outside of the 21-day window allowed by the Electoral Act were both tossed down by the tribunal.
A similar petition by the Labour Party to have its name removed from the PDP's petition was successful.
