Ogun Tribunal Gives Verdicts This Saturday Between Adebutu Vs Abiodun
In a highly anticipated decision, the Ogun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal is set to render its verdict this Saturday. This pivotal judgment stems from the petition filed by Ladi Adebutu, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, challenging the victory of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The tribunal, presided over by Hamidu Kunaza, had kept the state in suspense since September 4 when it reserved its judgment. Parties involved were left waiting for the announcement of the judgment date. However, it has now been officially confirmed that the tribunal will unveil its decision this weekend.
Mrs. Ezenta Obioma, the tribunal's secretary, verified this development in Abeokuta. Dr. Remi Olatubora (SAN), counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), also confirmed the scheduled judgment date.
This case revolves around the outcome of the March 18 Governorship election, where INEC declared Governor Abiodun the winner with 276,298 votes. Adebutu, in his petition, is seeking a court order to declare himself as the rightful winner of the election. Furthermore, the petitioners are urging the court to direct INEC to conduct fresh elections in 99 polling units across 16 Local Government areas where elections were marred by disruptions and over-voting. The verdict on Saturday will undoubtedly have significant implications for Ogun State's political landscape.
