The 'One Chip Challenge' On TikTok Claimed The Life Of A 14-Year-Old Child.
After taking part in the trending "One Chip Challenge," a boy in the tenth grade passed away unexpectedly.
Harris Wolobah died the same day he took part in the "One Chip Challenge," a popular online craze, according to NBC Boston. Harris, a native of Worcester, Massachusetts, died when he was just 14 years old.
The One Chip Challenge is eating the full chip and then delaying drinking or eating anything else for as long as possible.
The boy's mother was contacted by the school on September 1 after Harris reported having a stomachache. He had consumed the really spicy chip after receiving it from a classmate.
After returning home, the young man felt better, but just as he was preparing to leave for basketball tryouts at 4.30 p.m., he passed out.
Police Lt. Sean Murtha told the Worcester Telegram that the youngster was not breathing and not responding. After being transferred to the hospital, he was declared dead.
Although Harris's death is the first recorded fatality related to the chips, several other kids also required medical attention.
After several pupils required medical attention, a school district in Lafayette, Louisiana banned the chips from all campuses in October 2022.
Less than a month later, Dunwood, Georgia police issued a warning on the snack after paramedics were called to a high school there.
The cause of Harris's demise is still unknown, and an autopsy is still awaiting.
The Worcester Public Schools website published a statement on September 3 from Dr. Rachel Monárrez, the district's superintendent.
The adolescent was described by her as a "rising star."
