Baggari People Complain About A Lack Of Amenities And Call For Help.
Citizens of Baggari Payam in South Sudan's Western Bahr el Ghazal State have expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of basic amenities in their area, which serves as the county headquarters.
The ongoing dispute related to the transfer of the county headquarters to Baggari Payam has resulted in the commissioner of Wau County being unable to carry out his duties there.
The dispute stems from the 2012 political crisis and violence surrounding the relocation of the county headquarters.
Baggari Payam is currently under the administration of the opposition SPLM-IO.
During a recent peace awareness activity conducted by the UN Mission in the area, the Paramount Chief of Greater Baggari Payam, Emilio Ulau, highlighted the dire humanitarian situation due to poor rainfall, which is expected to lead to a poor harvest and low agricultural productivity.
He also noted the lack of support for health facilities and the need for qualified teachers in local schools.
Margret Caesar Zamangi, a legislator representing Baggari in the state parliament, emphasized the importance of peace for stability and development in the region.
She welcomed support from donors in areas such as education, agriculture, and health.
Brigadier General John Ucin Madiraino, the SPLA-IO field commander in Baggari, assured the community of security and the implementation of the peace agreement, emphasizing their commitment to protecting civilians.
The citizens' appeals underscore the ongoing challenges faced by communities in South Sudan and the need for intervention to address their basic needs and promote lasting stability in the region.
