Commandant: In 31 Years, The Defense College Trained 2,750 People.
Olumuyiwa Olotu, the commander-in-chief of the National Defence College (NDC), unveiled some remarkable numbers during the inauguration of NDC Course 32 in Abuja.
Over the course of 31 years, the NDC has honed the skills of a staggering 2,750 participants, predominantly hailing from Nigeria (2,466) but also welcoming 296 individuals from various corners of the globe.
The NDC has become a crucible for grooming senior military personnel, law enforcement officers, security agency operatives, and government officials from strategic ministries.
Olotu emphasized that the college's mission since its inception in 1992 has been to prepare its participants for high-level strategic roles in governance.
Course 32 is currently underway with 108 eager participants.
This diverse group includes 68 senior officers from the Nigerian armed forces, six from the Nigeria Police Force, and 19 from other security agencies.
Additionally, representatives from strategic government bodies are in attendance.
Notably, the course has attracted 15 international participants from countries as far-ranging as Benin, Botswana, Brazil, Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Germany, India, Liberia, and Mali, to name a few.
Olotu's message to these participants is clear: seize this opportunity to prepare yourselves for greater responsibilities in your respective services and nations.
He acknowledged the ongoing process of democracy in Nigeria and the dividends it brings, while underscoring the importance of national cohesion for security and development.
The inaugural lecture, "Strengthening National Unity for Security and Development in Nigeria," underscores the vital role that unity plays in overcoming challenges at all levels of government.
