During the Men's 3000-Meter Steeplechase race at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Soufiane El Bakkali (L) celebrates his gold medal victory.

Soufiane El Bakkali, an Olympic champion from Hungary, won the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase on Tuesday (August 22) in Budapest and claimed a second straight world championship victory.

Lamecha Girma, 22, who two months ago shattered the 19-year-old world record, was taken aback by Moroccan El Bakkali.

It is the fourth consecutive Bakkali medal victory. He won silver in London in 2017 at the age of 27, bronze in Doha in 2019 and then gold in Eugene, Oregon, in the USA.
