More issues Arise For Tinubu's Minister As NYSC Prohibits Corps Members From Participating In Politics.
Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) are forbidden from participating in political politics, according to the NYSC.
Even while Hannatu Masawa's appointment by President Bola Tinubu as Nigeria's minister of arts, culture, and the creative economy is still surrounded by controversy Ms. Musawa is reportedly an active NYSC volunteer.
According to a source who talked to theglobalnewsupdates under the condition of anonymity, it was severely forbidden to participate in partisan politics or affiliate with a political party during the service year.
The source stated that NYSC made an effort to uphold neutrality and non-partisanship during the service year.
"Based on the NYSC Act and its accompanying bye-laws governing the operations and regulations of the scheme, there are no specific provisions that prohibit a serving corps member from being appointed as a minister or commissioner," the source stated.
"However, it is crucial to remember that the selection of ministers or commissioners is frequently a political process that takes factors like party connections into account.
The NYSC bye-laws provide that during the service year, corps members are not allowed to participate in partisan politics or join any political party.
"The purpose of this restriction is to uphold the NYSC program's impartiality and nonpartisanship.
"Corps members are expected to concentrate on their primary responsibilities, which include national service, community development, education, and healthcare."
