NYSC Admits That President Tinubu's Minister, Musawa, Is A Serving Corps Member And That Her Appointment Is Illegal

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has certified that Mrs. Hannatu Musawa, the minister of arts and culture, is completing her one-year youth service; as a result, she is in violation of the NYSC Act by holding the ministerial position.

This was expressed by the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, who also promised that the program would take the appropriate steps in this regard.

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), a civic organization, had reportedly confirmed on Thursday that Musawa was still a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The minister was reportedly assigned to Onyilokwu Onyilowa and Co., which is reportedly based at the former Banex Plaza in Abuja, according to a statement from HURIWA signed by its National President, Emmanuel Onwubiko.

"You Can't Be a Serving NYSC Corper and Minister at the Same Time" was the title of a statement made by HURIWA. Her NYSC posting information is FC/23A/505.

Criticizing the 10th Senate, which is led by Senator Godswill Akpabio, for allowing Musawa to "take a bow and go" HURIWA questioned the MPs' gesture, implying that some of them knew beforehand that there were unsolved questions regarding the woman's NYSC status.

The NYSC spokeswoman verified that the minister had been working in the FCT for the previous eight months while speaking with Daily Trust about the matter.

He clarified that until the one-year service was complete, it was against the NYSC Act for any corps member to accept any government post.

He said that Mrs. Musawa had completed her orientation program in Ebonyi State before being mobilized for the youth service in 2001. She thereafter moved to Kaduna State to complete the program.

He claimed that when she arrived in Kaduna, she fled and abandoned the program.

Megwa stated that the plan would investigate the situation and take appropriate action.

Mario Justus Chinonso Alozie" in  custody over allegations of homosexuality, but the case was adjourned to Wednesday, February 5,2025 , for consideration of his bail.
