Zakharyan: Playing For Real Sociedad Is More Fascinating Than Chelsea.
Arsen Zakharyan, a Russian attacking midfielder, has taken a shot at Chelsea following his unsuccessful transfer attempt to the Premier League team.
In each of the last three transfer windows, Zakharyan has been closely associated with Chelsea.
Last summer, Chelsea was prepared to exercise the €15 million player's release clause and sign the 20-year-old from Dynamo Moscow.
But a combination of issues, particularly the British sanctions imposed on Russia in response to its invasion of the neighboring Ukraine, caused the plan to fall through.
In the January transfer window, Chelsea also made an effort to resurrect the deal, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Additionally, during the recently closed summer transfer window, there were rumors that Todd Boehly, a co-owner of Chelsea, planned to exploit a weakness to bring Zakharyan to the west London club.
Because it would have been simpler for Zakharyan to travel to Chelsea from there than from Russia, this loophole would have caused him to join Chelsea's sister club, Strasbourg, in which Boehly holds a majority ownership.
Zakharyan, however, made the decision to sign with Real Sociedad over the summer.
Zakharyan emphasized that Real Sociedad are a "more interesting" club than Chelsea while commenting on the development.
According to Zakharyan, "Coming to Real Sociedad was more interesting for me than going to Chelsea."
It was also the more sensible choice. When I signed, I realized I had already become a Real player. During the negotiation, I was concerned about a few things, but now I'm here," he remarked.
