Federal Government Extends Invitation To NLC For Crucial Meeting Today
In a bid to avert the impending nationwide indefinite strike declared by organized labor, the federal government has extended another invitation to labor leaders.
A meeting is scheduled for 2 pm today, October 1st, at the State House in Abuja.
The previously planned meeting on September 29th between government officials and labor representatives at the State House was canceled after the organized labor group declined to participate.
In a memorandum from the Federal Ministry of Labor and Employment, Director Emmanuel Igbinosun, representing the Minister, invited the President of the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) to the meeting, which is set to take place in the Aso Villa Conference Room of the office of the Chief of Staff to the President.
The statement in the memorandum indicated, "Please be assured as always of the kind regards of the Hon. Minister of Labour & Employment."
The meeting is expected to include the national leadership of both the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
Government representatives at the meeting will comprise the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Hon Simon Lalong, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon Nkiruka Onyejeocha, and various other high-ranking government officials.
Further details will be provided as the situation develops.
